Understand Proper Nutrition For A Pregnancy
Posted on 05. Oct, 2009 by Henry Poperfield.
There are many things a woman can do to grow a healthy, full-term baby. Eating a healthful, well-balanced diet is the most important of them all. Proper nutrition helps you avoid a premature birth, preeclampsia, eclampsia, or gestational diabetes. Diligence in this will pay off with an easier pregnancy, an easier delivery, and a healthy, happy baby. If you can’t afford to follow a good diet, apply for the WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program, which is available nation-wide. These coupons can be used at all grocery stores and many farmers markets.
What should you eat? It’s really pretty simple. Imagine your dinner plate. Divide it in half. One half should be filled with vegetables of assorted colors: green, yellow, red, white. Things like peas, broccoli, green beans, dark, leafy greens, and asparagus are green. Corn, sweet potatoes, and yams are yellow. Bell peppers, tomatoes, and eggplant are red. Cauliflower, mushrooms, and potatoes are white. Technically, some of these things are not vegetables, but for our purposes, this is the category they go in.
The other half of your plate is divided in half again. In one section, you put your protein. This can be chicken, beef, pork, lamb, and other meats, seafood, or vegetarian options such as tofu, cheese, or beans. For the most part, be careful to choose lean cuts of meat, or low-fat versions of cheese.
The final quarter of your plate will be filled with a starch. This can include items from the vegetable category, such as the potatoes and yams, or beans, which are also a protein. Other items are rice, bread, pasta, and other grains. The most important thing – and this is really important – is that you choose whole grains. Your breads should be made with whole grain flour (it will say so on the label), your rice should be brown. Other excellent grains are quinoa (also high in protein), kasha, wheat berries, and whole grain cornmeal. Steel cut oatmeal is practically the best thing you can eat for breakfast.
Every day, be sure to drink a quart of milk or eat milk products, such as cheese or yogurt. Have two eggs every day. Include a serving or two of fruit. Eat small amounts – three meals, and a snack between each meal and before you go to bed. Salt your food to taste, and drink eight glasses of water or other liquid each day. It also helps to know what should not be included in the pregnant woman’s diet. This includes the obvious, such as alcohol, to the not-so-obvious, such as caffeine, sugar, and junk food, to the disputed, such as processed food. Do your best to avoid refined foods of any kind.

Eat Less and Live Longer
Posted on 04. Oct, 2009 by Alex Ariel Sanders.
Whenever we hear that we have to eat less in order to lose weight we start envisioning ourselves as being deprived and starving. Losing weight is one of the benefits of caloric restriction (CR). The truth is that reduction of our caloric intake may lead to anti-aging health benefits as well! Experimental studies have even shown that it is possible live longer by eating less calories. Let us take a look at how to slow aging with caloric restriction.
One important fact to keep in mind is that caloric restriction (CR) is not necessarily equivalent to malnutrition if the nutrient values are dense. This is not about ending up starved but about being healthier with what is consumed by the body. Initially calories consumed can be lowered by changing not how much is eaten but what is eaten. It is not surprising that fruits and vegetables are lower in calories but have high nutrient density. If you are interested to slow aging with caloric restriction, eat a lot of those, as well grains, beans and fish.
Recent studies have shown in primates, mice, worms, and flies that caloric restriction while maintaining a healthful diet regimen leads to a longevity without onset of many of the diseases associated with aging, including heart disease, high blood pressure, osteoarthritis and dementia.
In studies with experimental animals, when the brain regions responsible for cognition and memory were measured, there was a significant difference in the amount of atrophy of the brain tissues. In animals on caloric restriction, there was less atrophy as compared to the control group of animals, which was allowed to consume as much as they wanted. As a result, the control group that was on unrestricted caloric intake was showing the obvious signs of aging such as atrophy and other diseases. A 30% caloric reduction resulted in slowing the aging process by 30%-40%.
In general, the average human male consumes over 2600 calories per day. This is just an average number. There are no magic numbers for determining the precise number of calories that we should consume if we desire to slow aging with caloric restriction. People come in a variety of sizes, and have different metabolisms, meaning that some need more calories just to survive than would be enough to bring on obesity in others.
The way to slow aging with caloric restriction is to pay attention to how many calories you normally consume in a day. Do this over a period of about a month to establish a solid average number of calories. In the second month, reduce the number of calories per day by five percent. Do not starve yourself or leave yourself feeling hungry. Instead, simply replace some of the higher calorie foods in your diet with lower calorie foods that are dense in nutrients.
Visit your doctor and ask him to work with you on this one. Initially, a baseline should be set for your cholesterol, fasting blood sugar and blood pressure levels. On the following month, the caloric intake should be reduced at another 5 percent. At the end of the month, the measurements should again be noted down. This is done month after month. When you see any clear improvements on the statistics, you can be assured that you are effectively slowing the aging process your body is going through. The reduction process should continue until the changes stop. This indicates that you have reached the calorie intake level you need in order to end up with a longer and healthier life.
A compound called resveratrol, found in red wine and grape skins, has been shown to have the same health and anti-aging benefits of caloric restriction. Studies at the University of Florida have shown that Resveratrol can mimic the effects of caloric restriction, “the hallmark of life extension”. If restricting your calories by 15%-30% seems too hard, why not give Resveratrol, which has similar health benefits, a fair chance? If you desire a longer and healthier life, it is your choice if you want to go for years through the pains of a restricted diet or try Resveratrol!

Why Choose Liquid Calcium?
Posted on 04. Oct, 2009 by Neil Butterfield.
Our body is built on a foundation of minerals and calcium and magnesium are two of the most important minerals that the body needs. Calcium is a building block and magnesium is necessary for the body to be able to properly use the calcium. Its time you knew the benefits of liquid calcium over pills and powder forms of calcium.
Because it is water based, liquid calcium is almost 100% available to be absorbed. This is in a sharp contrast of what many have been led to believe over the years; that pill forms of calcium is good for you. In reality, the amount absorbed from pills or even chelated calcium is less than 25%.
We loose calcium through our urine which is one reason why many people are actually calcium deficient. Protein rich foods cause calcium to be secreted through the urine. Liquid calcium reduces this problem significantly because the calcium is so quickly absorbed into the blood stream. And the very best liquid calcium is liquid ionic calcium.
Its a common mistake to think that a person is getting adequate calcium through their diet. Actually thats seldom the case. Calcium deficiencies are very common, which is all the more reason to take liquid calcium.
Liquid calcium magnesium can reduce stomach acidity so a good time to take the calcium supplement is after eating. It can also help with your digestion of your food and it reduces constipation and stomach upset.
Other things calcium is good for includes; blood clotting, regulating nerve impulses, stimulating contractions during labor and producing milk.
If a child does not get enough calcium, they will get rickets. If an adult does not get enough calcium, they will get osteoporosis or osteomalacia (softening of bony tissue.)
Colon cancer and High blood pressure have been linked by recent studies to a lack of calcium.
Calcium deficiencies often show themselves as numbness and/or tingling of the fingertips, and around the mouth, as well as muscle spasms and painful aches.
If you have trouble losing weight, this could also be due to lack of calcium. When you are not getting enough calcium your body thinks it’s starving. This causes it to go into emergency mode and hold on as tight as it can to those extra pounds.
Calcium also does a great job of protecting the heart. When you are calcium deficient your body releases calcitriol which is a hormone that constricts your arteries causing high blood pressure. Calcium also plays an important role in your nervous system.
When it’s that time of month, were all familiar with the irritably, cramps and a depression that comes with PMS. Adding more calcium to your diet can regulate your hormones and ease you through this difficult time.
Liquid calcium gives you five times the protection over pill calcium for diseases like colon cancer and polyps.
You can be calcium deficient without knowing it. Why wait to start taking liquid calcium to protect your health?

Your Guide To High Protein Meal Plans And The Gastric Bypass Revision
Posted on 04. Oct, 2009 by Riz Goodman.
The last method to lose after you have tried all other methods is to go under the knife and get the bariatric surgery done. Define your weight loss goals and then make sure that you have the taken adequate medical advice before proceeding for the surgery.
The way the surgery works is that the stomach size is cut to half or more the original size. The intestines are then joined with new much smaller stomach. So in essence you have a new smaller stomach.
With the smaller stomach the food intake is lowered that helps to reduce the extra food that you were eating before the surgery. Another type of surgery is the lap band surgery which is also a type of bariatric surgery. This has helped a lot many people only if they take necessary care after the operation.
You will need to have the protein meals right after the surgery. Initially for a few days you need only liquid protein meals and then you can switch to solid protein food intake. Again this should be taken in small quantities at regular intervals. The other major factor can be the issues and complications in the first bariatric surgery. The gastric revision surgery is also known as the duodenum switch bypass surgery.
The gastric revision surgery is also known as the duodenum switch bypass surgery.
It is a grave risk to have the second surgery and has to done very carefully as after this there nothing which can be corrected. Having protein diet is a must. Have the protein shakes and good high protein meals to make sure that you have the adequate nutrient to recover and then start small volume of regular food. Mind you that the cost of the protein diet is expensive however it is absolutely essential to make sure that surgery is successful and you meet your weight loss goals.

Take My Information On How To Prevent Hair Loss
Posted on 04. Oct, 2009 by Scott Conrad.
Do not be mystified regarding hair loss, some of this cannot be prevented. Every person loses between 100-150 hairs on a daily basis, it’s a very average rate and you don’t need to be troubled. Besides, hair loss may possibly develop in bigger amounts at certain worrying stages in life, including times of mediocre well being, pregnancy, and general upheaval. I say again, these could be treated and in nearly all conditions they are not lifelong.
There are a number of ways to prevent abnormal hair loss.
1 – Stay healthy. If you need to improve blood circulation then you need to eat well and get enough exercise. If you are healthy, your scalp will be healthy too, leading to the effective growing and natural replacement of your hair. So it is important to stay healthy and get sufficient exercise to improve your body’s circulation.
2 – Stop injuring your hair. Harsh shampoos and coloring/treatment products, used in excess, will kill your hair. Your follicles cannot replace hair as fast as it is falling out when your hair is severely damaged. Likewise, use dry heat as little as possible – blow dryers and curling irons dry out and crack hair, causing it to break off in more than normal amounts.
3 – Find ways to reduce stress and anxiety in your life. If you over-react to stressful situations, lose sleep, worry constantly, you are on the road to more health concerns than just loss of hair. But make no mistake about it, your hair will fall out in greater amounts.
4 – Apply topical lotions to your scalp. In order to keep follicles open and productive, essential oils and combinations of herbs are recommended.
5 – Use medical products both in lotion and pill form developed by variety of pharmaceutical companies.
6 – Start early. As soon as you experience hair loss that has been confirmed not to be a result of another health condition, begin your investigation of the wide variety of treatments available. You will have to experiment and you will have to be patient. Many products require 3-6 months before you see visible results
7 – Don’t become discouraged. Keep on searching for new discoveries regarding hair loss, and stick to whatever seems to be giving you results at this time. There is a lot of medical research around finding a permanent, universally effective treatment for hair loss.
8 – If none of the programs work to your satisfaction give thought to other solutions such as wigs or hair pieces, hair extensions or transplants.
Apprehension over the loss of your hair is a waste of your time, especially if you let it influence your relationships and your temperament. If you are now ready to enjoy a better life, take the guidance I have provided on how to prevent hair loss.

Colostrum as an Immune Booster
Posted on 04. Oct, 2009 by Dr. Anthony Kleinsmith.
Immune Factors
Let’s take a deeper look at the immune factors from colostrum and what exactly they do. Some immune factors are immuno-regulating substances and help in the functions of the immune system. Other factors are more localized and area specific in the body; some of those factors are gut protective substances.
Immuno-Regulating Substances
Thymosin (Alpha and Beta Chains) – Two protein-based chains make up this hormone. The chains are separate in colostrum; however, they can either stay separated and work independently on the thymus gland, or they can work together to activate, develop and maintain the immune system.
Proline-rich peptide (PRP) , a/k/a thymulin. A hormone-like small protein that acts upon the thymus and other organs associated with the immune system to keep them from over-reacting to an insult.
Cytokines. Small proteins produced by various cells in the body that induce the generation of specialized types of white blood cells, signal them to come to the site of an insult and help in their passage through tissues.
Lymphokines – Different types of white blood cells produce varying sizes of these proteins. These proteins inform related cells to transform in such a way that makes them more functional in releasing substances that can destroy invading microorganisms.
Gut protective substances.
Immunoglobulins (IgG, IgM, IgA) – Most of the proteins found in colostrum are these Immunoglobulins, better known as antibodies. As the mother cow responds to microorganisms throughout her life and fights them off, her immune system produces these antibodies which are then transferred into colostrum before she delivers her calf. These antibodies can fight off viruses, fungi and bacteria that infect a person’s gastrointestinal tract.
Transfer Factors – These small proteins are created as the body responds to exposure of specific types of microorganisms, especially microorganisms that live for long periods of time in deep tissues. These proteins are limited in their effectiveness in defending against microorganisms; instead, they act with a variety of white blood cells as they strive to keep microorganisms in check.
Lactoferrin – This protein attaches to iron, and it is very effective when certain aerobic bacterias require iron for reproduction. Lactoferrin can impede the growth of microorganisms in the gut when working with a specific antibody.
Transferrin – This protein also attaches to iron and can either act on its own or combine forces with Lactoferrin. When in action, it impedes the growth of aerobic bacteria, specifically in the gut area.
Lysozyme. A very powerful enzyme that is capable of attaching itself to the cell wall of certain pathogenic bacteria and degrading selected proteins, leaving holes in the wall of the bacteria.
Lactoperoxidase. A mildly effective enzyme that can also attach to the wall of certain bacteria, degrade other selected proteins and interfere with the ability of the bacteria to replicate.
Xanthine Oxidase – This enzyme is similar to Lysozyme and Lactoperoxidase as it attaches itself to cell walls of bacterias and degrading proteins. It attaches to different degrading proteins than Lactoperoxidase. Once attached, it interferes with the bacteria’s replication.
White blood cells (leukocytes). Primarily three types of functional white blood cells are present in colostrum, including neutrophils, macrophages and polymorphonuclear cells. Each has the ability to phagocytize microorganisms and other foreign bodies and apply substances carried internally to the destruction of the microorganisms. Their functions are dramatically enhanced when antibodies first attach to the microorganisms.
Oligosaccharides and Glycocnjugates – These complex carbohydrates are found attached to the interior surface of the gastrointestinal tract of the body. They prevent microorganisms from attaching to the gastrointestinal tract.

Acai Berry the Energy Booster
Posted on 04. Oct, 2009 by Ira Borden.
Perhaps the greatest claim for the acai (ah-sigh-ee) berry juice and supplements which are taking the world by storm is the excellent energy boosting properties being claimed from many of its users. Many claim to see results after just one or two weeks of taking the product. In addition to improved digestion, users claimed sharpening of their mental abilities and better sleep.
It may sound a little far fetched but did you know that these fruits contain more protein than an egg? They contain multi vitamin and have a high concentration of lipids ” the energy booster noted earlier. The anti oxidant levels are even thirty times higher than that found in grapes and wine which for a long period was known as a good supplement for heart health.
The cholesterol levelers found in the acai berry far outstrip any other natural supplements available today. The importance of this little berry can be evident once you see it contains antioxidants which are good for heart and blood circulation.
It does not stop there. The vitamins and minerals present in this ’super’ food actively encourage the uptake of important oils into the connective tissue. What is the meaning of this? To get to the point, the body takes in increased amount of oil needed for muscle regeneration and flexibility ” great news for people suffering from arthritis and related diseases.
Therefore, it appears that eating this magical little berry every day is all it takes to get healthier. Don’t you want to have more energy, have a sharper mind, feel more awake and know for certain that your heart is receiving a daily boost?
Doctors and scientists have yet to confirm all of the claims being made but in the meantime it couldn’t hurt to try out this juice or supplement for yourself. Before actually starting it is good to take blood pressure, cholesterol levels and weight and then monitor yourself for a month or so. In this way you won’t have to wait for someone else to tell you that you are getting healthier!
